Women have been serving in the Australian Naval Service since 1941 first assisting with wireless telegraphy and other vital roles.
Over 3,000 women enlisted with the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRANS) during World War II.
In 1985 the WRANS were officially integrated into the Royal Australian Navy and were finally allowed the opportunity to serve at sea.
